MSU Early Signing Day Tracker: Who has signed with the Spartans?
Track every recruit MSU signs during the early signing period.
The early signing period for NCAA Division I football began on Wednesday, Dec. 3 and runs through Friday, Dec. 5.
Things quickly changed for Michigan State football over the past few days, as the Spartans moved on from head coach Jonathan Smith on Nov. 30, and one day later, hired Pat Fitzgerald as the program's new head coach on Dec. 1.
With the coaching change, things were obviously up in the air regarding which of Michigan State's commits still planned to sign with the Spartans. Four-star wide receiver commit Samson Gash plans to wait until February to make his final decisions (or possibly at the end of this week), but the majority of MSU's commits have signed with the program this week.
Once hired, Fitzgerald immediately got to work on the recruiting trail, calling recruits and their families to reassure them about where things stand and how motivated he is to turn the program around.
Fitzgerald's efforts have kept the majority of the 2026 recruiting class together.
With that in mind, much of the credit should be given to Smith, interim head coach and defensive coordinator Joe Rossi, his assistant coaches and the recruiting and personnel staff. The current staff did all of the heavy lifting in terms of identifying talent and putting together a class that currently ranks in the top-40 nationally — but they also kept working as the signing period approached and throughout this week to actually get those prospects signed, even knowing that their futures with MSU are uncertain.
