The Michigan State football program has received a preferred walk-on commitment from class of 2026 East Grand Rapids High School offensive lineman Cole Bertke.

MSU officially announced the addition of Bertke on Wednesday.

Bertke recently took a visit to MSU.

"I really enjoyed meeting the coaching staff and am look forward to competing for Michigan State University," Bertke told Spartans Illustrated.

Bertke was previously committed to Hillsdale. He also had offers from Elmhurst University, Kalamazoo College and Calvin University.

He suffered a fractured fibula injury late in the 2025 season, but still earned first-team OK Black All-Conference honors as a senior.

At Michigan State, Bertke will play under head coach Pat Fitzgerald, offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan, offensive line coach Nick Tabacca and the rest of the newly-hired staff.

Additionally, Bertke has a connection to MSU, as his high school teammate, class of 2027 three-star offensive lineman Grant Adloff, recently committed to the Spartans.

Bertke will arrive to East Lansing in the summer and join MSU's 2026 roster.

The 6-foot-5, 275-pound Bertke also plays basketball. Additionally, he excels in the classroom with a 4.35 grade point average.
