WBB: No. 24 Iowa State gets revenge in 93-68 win over the Bearcats

It wasn't pretty in Ames, Bearcats lose 93-68

The University of Cincinnati women’s basketball team fell to RV/No. 24 Iowa State, 93-68, on Wednesday night in Ames, Iowa.  

The Bearcats (7-13, 2-6 Big 12) pulled within seven in the third quarter before the Cyclones pulled away with the victory. With the result, UC splits the regular season series with Iowa State.

Freshman Kylie Torrence scored a career-high 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting. It marked the first 20-point outing of her career.

Reagan Jackson (17) and Caliyah DeVillasee (15) also finished in double figures. Jackson drained four 3-pointers while DeVillasee dished out four assists.

Cincinnati shot 42% from the field but just 29% from deep. Iowa State countered with 55% shooting and 11 triples (.423). Iowa State’s Jada Williams finished with a game-high 44 points.

Cincinnati scored six straight to take an early lead in the first. Iowa State responded with eight in a row before Ramiyah Byrd converted a turnaround layup. In total, the Cyclones used a 15-2 run to lead by nine after one (21-12).

Iowa State continued its run into the second frame, forcing a UC timeout at 5:29 on the clock (31-15). A Torrence jumper, followed by an and-one from DeVillasee pulled Cincinnati within 11 (31-20). UC trailed 41-28 at halftime. 

Out of the break, Cincinnati rattled off seven straight points to pull within eight with 7:18 in the third (43-35). Jackson then drilled a three-pointer to make it 45-38. Crawford made a pair of jumpers to keep the Bearcats within 12 (61-49) but Iowa State ended the period on a 7-0 run to lead 68-49.

The Bearcats would not get any closer for the remainder of the game, falling 93-68.
