After spending four seasons at Notre Dame, senior running back Gi’Bran Payne transferred to his hometown program Cincinnati. The LaSalle grad was a four star recruit in the 2022 class. Looking for a fresh start, he returned to the area that raised him.
Now, back in his hometown, Payne has started off the season with back to back 100 yard games. Both games mark his first and second time going over the century mark since being in college. Against Boston College he did it in 14 rushes, while racking up 108 yards on 7.7 yards per carry. He followed it up with 102 yards on 12 rushes for an average of 8.5 yards a carry and two touchdowns, two catches for 14 yards.
Right now, he’s set at 210 yards on an 8.1 yards per carry rate. Maybe the yards per carry comes down, but he's leading the way for a very talented backfield that could make some noise in the Big 12.
