Jerrod Calhoun and the Cincinnati Bearcats coaching staff has officially hit the ground running as they have officially landed a commitment from Cincinnati standout Kam Mercer.

Mercer, a 6'5", 185-pound shooting guard from Princeton High School was originally a top 15 player in the class of 2028, but has since then reclassified into the 2027 class and immediately becomes Jerrod Calhoun's highest rated recruit in his head coaching tenure. Not only that, but he would also become the highest ranked player to commit to the University of Cincinnati, surpassing Cincinnati legend Lance Stephenson.

The Princeton High School standout is currently ranked 11th in the 2028 class and number one player in the State of Ohio according to 247 Sports. However, worth noting that Cincinnati head coach Jerrod Calhoun reached out to Mercer and his family almost immediately after taking the Cincinnati job back in March.

Mercer was able to set up an official visit to Cincinnati back on May 5th where he was officially re-offered by Jerrod Calhoun and the Bearcats coaching staff. However, Mercer is no stranger to Cincinnati fans as the local five star has been a priority target for Cincinnati since former head coach Wes Miller originally offered back in October of 2024.

He started his high school career playing for Huntington Prep high school before making the transition to Overtime Elite for his sophomore season. Mercer, returned home to Cincinnati shortly ahead of the 2025-2026 season where he enrolled at Princeton High School where he helped the Vikings etch their name into history as the Vikings secured their first every Division one State Championship.

Mercer picked up second-team GMC Honors where he averaged 14 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals per game for the Vikings. However, he did miss 11 of the first 12 games of the season due to injury. Now, for Mercer, you could simply see the potential flash of the charts when you turn on the game film, which was incredible down the stretch of Princeton's State tournament run, where he recorded a 20-point 10 rebound performance in the Vikings win over Hamilton in the early rounds of the state tournament.

Princeton high school Coach Bryan Wyant sat down with TFON to discuss Mercer and his playstyle via text:

"Kam Mercer is a special talent,"Wyant told TFON. "His skill set, competitiveness, and leadership skills are off the chart. I am most impressed with his commitment to the game and his basketball IQ. It has been so refreshing to coach a player with such high acumen for the game and his ability to read and make decisions on the basketball floor give our team a great chance at being successful."

The talented wing is known for his relentless motor on both ends of the court. Most importantly a generational player who can impact the game in multiple different ways. He can score the ball at an elite level but has a great knack to get downhill with an emphasis to attack the basket. Which is one of his strongest suits when you turn on the game tape. He also great vision and his ability to make the right play in almost every situation with incredible leadership skills with his playing experience.

Mercer currently plays on the Nike EYBL circuit for the Indy Heat where he just wrapped up a big showing in Memphis, Tennessee to kick off the second session of the live period.

Now for Cincinnati, Jerrod Calhoun and the Bearcats are getting a complete winner. Mercer has secured almost every high school accolade you can think of, Peach Jam Championship, Gold Medalist, Team USA and now add Ohio State Champion to the mix.

Mercer chose Cincinnati over programs like Memphis, Louisville, Maryland, Florida State, Xavier, Kentucky, Ohio State, Villanova and many more.
