Bearcats Miller and Thiam earn Big 12 Honors

Senior Baba Miller and sophomore Moustapha Thiam have been honored as part of the Big 12’s postseason awards, the conference office announced Monday. Miller was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team, along with garnering Big 12 All-Newcomer Team laurels, while Thiam was selected Honorable Mention All-Big 12.

Miller leads the Bearcats with 13.4 points, 10.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. The native of Mallorca, Spain, also is blocking 1.2 shots per contest and recording 0.8 steals per game. Miller’s looking to become the first Bearcat to lead the team in points, rebounds and assists per game since Oscar Robertson first Bearcat to accomplish the feat over a full season since Oscar Robertson averaged 33.7 points, 14.1 rebounds and 7.3 assists per game in the 1959-60 season. He has led Cincinnati in scoring on nine occasions, rebounding 22 times and dished out a team-high assists 12 times. Miller, who ranks second in the conference with 13 double-doubles, has notched 22 double-figure scoring games and 15 double-figure rebounding contests.
Thiam, from Dakar, Senegal, has poured in 12.6 points per game, while pulling down 6.7 rebounds per contest. The sophomore also leads the Bearcats with 1.5 blocks per game. Thiam has posted 19 double-figure scoring games and five double-figure rebounding contests, to go along with five double-doubles. He has led the Bearcats in scoring five times and rebounding on seven occasions. Thiam led Cincinnati in scoring in Big 12 games at 14.0 points per game.

The Bearcats, who are 17-14 on the year and finished Big 12 play at 9-9, earned the No. 9 seed in this year’s Big 12 Tournament and open play at 3 p.m. ET Tuesday against No. 16 seed Utah at T-Mobile Center in Kansas City. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and broadcast on 700 WLW and the TuneIn app.
