Arizona State football is preparing for its matchup with Duke in the 2025 Tony The Tiger Sun Bowl on New Year's Eve in El Paso. Quarterback Jeff Sims is lined up to start the game, but a lot of attention in practice this week, leading up to the gam,e turned to a different quarterback on the team.

One who doesn’t even have numbers on his practice jersey.

That quarterback is incoming true freshman Jake Fette. Fette, an El Paso native, is a four-star recruit and 247 Sports’ composite ranking ranks him as the No. 9 quarterback (and No. 107 overall) in the 2026 recruiting class.

Although he is listed in the 2026 class, he graduated from El Paso Del Valle High School in December, allowing him to early enroll at ASU and join the team for their bowl practices.

“It worked out perfect that they're playing in the Sun Bowl, and I'm real excited that I'm out here getting to put in some work before I move out there,” Fette said after practice.
