Michigan State has received a commitment from former Georgia Southern offensive lineman Robert Wright Jr. out of the transfer portal. He will look to add protection on the front line under head coach Pat Fitzgerald in his first season as head coach for MSU football.

The Spartans hosted Wright, who has up to three seasons of eligibility left, on an official visit on Jan. 4.

In 2025, Wright played in 12 games for Georgia Southern, earning a start in 11 of them. He finished the season with a total of 752 offensive snaps played, which earned him a 75.6 pass-blocking grade and 61.0 run-blocking grade for the fall, according to Pro Football Focus. Nearly all of his snaps in 2025 came at right tackle (742) for the Eagles.

Wright redshirted in 2023 for his first season after seeing multiple snaps in three games as a freshman, but suffered a broken arm during practice, making him miss the remainder of the season. He also missed the 2024 season due to injury. He earned Sun Belt Conference Academic Honor Roll honors during the 2024-2025 school year as well.

The 6-foot-4, 295-pound lineman is from Atlanta, Georgia and currently sits as a three-star prospect in the transfer rankings, per 247Sports. He played high school football at Stockbridge High School. Wright finished his high school career in impressive fashion, giving up zero sacks and being called for zero holding penalties, earning him first-team all-state honors.

With the new coaching staff, Wright will play under Fitzgerald, new offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan and new offensive line coach Nick Tabacca, among other staff members, with the Spartans. Wright will add size and protection to an offensive line that struggled to protect its quarterbacks last season.

Wright now give the Spartans 15 public transfer portal commitments in total, including four offensive lineman. Wright joins North Dakota State transfer center Trent Fraley, UConn transfer offensive tackle Ben Murawski and South Carolina transfer guard Nick Sharpe in the new-look offensive trenches for MSU. More commitments are expected soon.
