Michigan State lands in-state commitment from former Ferris State Bulldog Carson Gulker

A versatile athlete from Zeeland, Michigan and former Ferris State Bulldog, Carson Gulker comes to MSU with unique athletic abilities. He's accounted for more than 70 touchdowns and has tallied 4,367 all purpose yards in his college career.

Michigan State earned a commitment from Ferris State University transfer athlete Carson Gulker. His transfer comes after four years with the Bulldogs, and he will have one year of eligibility remaining to spend with the Spartans.

Gulker committed to the Spartans on Jan. 7, following a visit to East Lansing, his agency, Bullrush Sports, confirmed to Spartans Illustrated. Allen Trieu of 247Sports was first to report the news.

He posted scholarship offers out of the transfer portal from MSU, LSU, Texas Tech, SMU, Duke, West Virginia and Liberty. He was planning to visit LSU after his trip to East Lansing, but committed to the Spartans instead.

A Michigan native and 2022 graduate from West Zeeland High School, Gulker signed with Division II Ferris State in 2021. His Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) achievements earned an invitation to the Hawaii Tiki Bowl his senior year of as a quarterback.

Listed at 6-foot-3, 240 pounds, Gulker became an elusive threat at multiple offensive positions while at Ferris State, contributing his talent to four national championship seasons with the Bulldogs. He was utilized as a quarterback, rusher and receiver. He played in 44 total career games at Ferris State and he compiled some impressive statistics in muktle categories.

Career Stats

  • Passing: 107 completions on 176 attempts (60.8%), 1,591 yards, 16 touchdowns and four interceptions

  • Rushing: 422 carries for 2,228 yards (50.6 yards per game) and 50 touchdowns

  • Receiving: 34 receptions for 548 yards (16.1 yards per catch) and seven touchdowns

Thus far, Gulker has accounted for 73 total touchdowns and 4,367 all-purpose yards in his college career. His unique athleticism will look to enhance the competition for various offensive position groups at Michigan State as he provides a versatile resume for the Spartan program.

At Michigan State, he will play under head coach Pat Fitzgerald, offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan, tight ends coach Brian Wozniak and the rest of the MSU staff. While Gulker could play in multiple spots for the Spartans, and Sheridan can find interesting ways to utilize his skill set, it would not be surprising to see Gulker play primarily as tight end or H-back.
