Michigan State men's basketball signs four top-85 prospects in 2026 class

Could more be on the way?

The early signing period for men's basketball opened on Wednesday, Nov. 12 and runs through Wednesday, Nov. 19. Within the first two days of the early period, Michigan State signed each of its three current commits: four-star point guard Carlos Medlock Jr., four-star small forward/power forward Julius Avent and four-star shooting guard Jasiah Jervis. Each of the new Spartans rank as top-100 prospects nationally.

Medlock, a Michigan native, was the first to pledge to Michigan State, as he committed to the Spartans on July 25. He took his official visit with MSU during the weekend of Oct. 3, which was also when the "Michigan State Madness" and "Izzone Campout" events took place. Avent was next to join the class, as he pledged to MSU on Oct. 1, after taking an official visit during the weekend of Aug. 30. Jervis, who officially visited amidst "Grind Week" in early September, is the latest recruit to commit to the Spartans, as he made his announcement on Nov. 5. They were all priority targets for MSU's coaching staff.

Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo and his staff have already put together an incredible recruiting class for the 2026 cycle, as it currently sits at No. 5 in the country, according to 247Sports. However, he is not quite done yet. MSU still has two priority targets left on the 2026 board who are yet to make a decision.

Five-star center Ethan Taylor — who is teammates with Medlock at Link Academy and took his official visit during the same weekend as Medlock — is scheduled to announce his decision on Friday, Nov. 14. Michigan State is the expected leader to earn Taylor's commitment. Another school to watch is Oregon. Given that the early signing period runs until Nov. 19, Taylor would be immediately eligible to sign with his school of choice.

Additionally, MSU is still battling for five-star small forward Maximo Adams, who is expected to make his decision during the early signing window as well. Adams arrived to East Lansing for his official visit on Sept. 11. North Carolina and Texas are considered the Spartans' biggest competition here, but Kentucky was also included in Adams' top-four. However, the Tar Heels are currently considered the leader for Adams and it is unlikely he signs with MSU at this point.

If Michigan State were to add Taylor or Adams (or both), the Spartans' 2026 class could potentially jump to the No. 1 ranking in the country on 247Sports.

Update: Michigan State added the commitment of 2026 five-star center Ethan Taylor on Friday, Nov. 14.
