Michigan State continues to rehaul its defense through the transfer portal, as the Spartans have earned a commitment from former Albany linebacker/defensive back Cam Stodghill.
At Michigan State, he will be coached by head coach Pat Fitzgerald, defensive coordinator Joe Rossi, co-defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Max Bullough, safeties coach James Adams, cornerbacks coach Hank Poteat and the rest of the MSU staff.
The 6-foot-3, 216-pound Stodghill spent three seasons at the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) with Albany from 2023 through 2025 and will have up to two years of eligibility remaining, with a redshirt intact if needed.
In 2025, Stodghill moved to the linebacker position — after primarily playing defensive back throughout his career — and played in just seven games for the Great Danes as a junior before a season-ending shoulder injury cut his campaign short. He recorded 65 total tackles, two tackles for loss and a half-sack.
According top Pro Football Focus, Stodghill played 420 defensive snaps and recorded an overall defensive grade of 64.3 and a tackling grade of 78.0. Stodghill also played 76 snaps on special teams. According to PFF, he played 240 defensive snaps in the box as a linebacker and 143 snaps as a slot cornerback.
As a sophomore in 2024, Stodghill played in 12 games and recorded 49 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and two sacks. He played the majority of his reps as a slot cornerback/nickel back that season,
As a true freshman in 2023, he appeared in six games, primarily on special teams. Stodghill recorded two tackles and a quarterback hurry.
Prior to Albany, Stodghill attended La Salle Institute in Troy, New York during his prep career.
With Stodghill's pledge, the Spartans now have 22 public commitments. Track all of Michigan State's transfer portal commitments here.
