Michigan State Baseball falls in series at Northwestern after exhibition win over the Lansing Lugnuts
The Spartans remain in search of traction as they approach the heart of conference play
By Patrick Plunkett
Michigan State found a split between momentum and missed opportunity over the past week, pairing an offensive outburst in a midweek exhibition with a series loss on the road in Big Ten play.
Fresh off a 16–10 win over the Lansing Lugnuts in the annual Crosstown Showdown, Michigan State traveled to Evanston and dropped two of three games against Northwestern. The Spartans now sit at 10–19 overall and 5–10 in conference play as the calendar turns toward mid-April.
Game 1: Donovan sets the tone in series win
Michigan State opened the weekend with its most complete performance of the series, leaning on a dominant outing from sophomore Aidan Donovan. The right-hander delivered eight innings of one-run baseball, controlling the Wildcats’ lineup and giving the Spartans a steady foundation.
