Michigan State earns a commitment from OG transfer Nick Sharpe from South Carolina
Sharpe played for newly-hired offensive line coach Nick Tabacca at Wake Forest from 2021-2024.
The Michigan State Spartans received more good news today as offensive guard Nick Sharpe has committed to play his final season in East Lansing under head coach Pat Fitzgerald, according to Chris Hummer of 247Sports.
Sharpe spent last year in Columbia, South Carolina as a member of the South Carolina Gamecocks. He spent the previous four years at Wake Forest where his position coach was Nick Tabacca. Sharpe and Tabacca will be reunited in East Lansing as Tabacca was recently hired to coach the offensive line at Michigan State.
Sharpe played sparingly in his first three years at Wake Forest. He redshirted in 2021 after taking just 19 snaps in one game. In his redshirt freshman year in 2022, he took a total of 89 snaps as a reserve lineman but played in a total of 11 games. Sharpe was elevated to a starting role in 2023 but only played 91 snaps and in two games due to a season-ending injury.
In his redshirt junior year of 2024, he saw action in all 12 games and started a total of 10 games. He took a total of 665 snaps on the offensive line and ended the season with an impressive Pro Football Focus grade of 73.2. For reference, center Matt Gulbin was the only member of the Spartan offensive line in 2025 with a higher grade on the offensive line (82.1) and at least 75 total snaps.
Sharpe made the decision to transfer to South Carolina for the 2025 season. Unfortunately, he suffered a right ankle injury during Spring practice which lingered into the regular season. He played sparingly for the Gamecocks until early October but took a total of 392 snaps in the final seven games of he season.
He earned a Pro Football Focus grade of 66.9 against a tough SEC schedule that included games against playoff-bound Oklahoma, Alabama, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M. In general, Sharpe appears to grade out slightly better in pass protection (72.0 grade) than in run blocking (65.7).
Sharpe is currently listed as 6-foot-2 and 340 pounds. He originally hails from Gastonia, North Carolina where he graduated from Hunter Huss High School and was rated as a three-star prospect out of high school. As a more recent member of the transfer portal, Sharpe was only rated as a three-star prospect. He is the No. 636 ranked player in the portal and the No. 36 ranked interior offensive lineman.
He graduated from Wake Forest in December 2024 with an undergraduate degree in communications. Sharpe was granted a sixth year of eligibility due to the significant time lost to injury during his 2023 season at Wake Forest.
