Michigan State has received a commitment from class of 2026 long snapper Zach Curtis as a preferred walk-on (PWO). He is a local product out of nearby Haslett High School.

Curtis visited Michigan State for its last two home games on Oct. 11 versus UCLA and Oct. 25 versus Michigan. He announced that he had received a roster spot opportunity with the Spartans from assistant special teams coordinator Joe Begnal on Oct. 16.

Curtis also received an offer from Saginaw Valley State, and took recent visits to Western Michigan and Central Michigan.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Curtis also plays defensive end for the Vikings and he was an All-Region selection by the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association (MHSFCA) in 2024.

Additionally, Curtis is rated as a 4.5-star long snapper by Rubio Long Snapping and ranks as the No. 2 specialist in Michigan. He ranks 69h overall in the 2026 class.

Michigan State head coach Jonathan Smith and offensive coordinator Brian Lindgren both have sons who attend Haslett and play on the football team.

Curtis becomes the 22nd commitment in total for the Spartans in the 2026 class, and the second preferred walk-on. He joins athlete Jack Lansing III as a PWO. Meanwhile, MSU currently has 20 scholarship players pledged to the class.

In 2026, Curtis will join long snapper Jack Wills, who has started every game for the Spartans as a true freshman so far during the 2025 season in place of the injured Kaden Schickel. While he is a redshirt senior, it is unclear if Schickel will pursue a medical hardship waiver and return to MSU next season.
