Fitzgerald opens new era with purpose as Spartans begin spring practice
MSU is beginning to lay the foundation with urgency, accountability, toughness, and depth

Pat Fitzgerald walked onto the practice field Tuesday morning to begin something new, but the backdrop felt unmistakably familiar.
It was St. Patrick’s Day in East Lansing – a week when campus leans into celebration – and the Chicago-born head coach couldn’t help but take it in on his way to Michigan State’s first official spring practice.
Students lined the streets. The energy was already building. Fitzgerald smiled at the timing.
Then came the work.
