2026 three-star athlete/safety Jonathan Granby signs with Michigan State
Granby made the move from Georgia Southern to MSU as the early national signing day period kicks off.
Michigan State has flipped class of 2026 three-star athlete Jonathan Granby from Georgia Southern. Granby will officially signed with the Spartans on Wednesday.
"I chose to be a Spartan because of the overall culture that is being built," Granby told Spartans Illustrated lead recruiting writer Ryan O'Bleness. "Something great is happening at Michigan State, so it was easy for me to want to be a part of it."
Granby, who currently attends Fellowship Christian School in Roswell, Georgia, took an official visit to Michigan State this past Sunday.
Despite the recent changes — MSU fired previous head coach Jonathan Smith on Sunday, Nov. 30 and announced the hiring of new head coach Pat Fitzgerald on Monday, Dec. 1 — Granby believes Michigan State is the place for him after having a conversation with Fitzgerald on Tuesday, the day he was introduced as the head coach in a introductory press conference on campus.
MSU announced on social media that Granby officially became a Spartan on Wednesday, Dec. 3, the first day of the early signing period. According to 247 Sports, Granby had committed to Georgia Southern on Sept. 25, 2025.
Sources tell Spartans Illustrated the 6-foot, 200-pound Granby will play safety at Michigan State.
In addition to Michigan State and Georgia Southern, Granby received scholarship offers from Georgia Tech, Army, Yale, Cornell, Dartmouth, Western Kentucky, Georgia State, Southern Miss and others.
According to Georgia writer Najeh Wilkins, in his article, Granby is really making plays on defense and is flying to the football: "Whenever he steps on the field, Granby is one of the best athletes and one who always makes plays on both sides of the field."
He also played quarterback on offense for the Paladins. Granby totaled 1,800 all-purpose yards, 27 touchdowns, 53 tackles and four pass break-ups during the regular season of his senior year.
Granby told Wilkins that his senior season was going well: "I am starting both ways, playing QB and safety, so I love to affect the game on both sides. Fellowship has a lot of talent, and most of all, we love just playing ball."
MSU's 2026 recruiting class currently ranks 39th nationally on 247Sports and 38th on Rivals/On3.
