The Defense: A shutout in a quarterfinal playoff game. Imagine telling that to yourself in 2007, 2014 or even 2024. I know Morton was about as unimpressive as could be, but at least part of that is due to our defense. It’s rare that you get a dominant physical and mental game from an entire unit, but we saw physical domination at the LOS and great discipline, scheme and focus on the mental side. It was total ownage at all three levels. There was a lot of worry and national dialogue about our defense coming out of JMU, and it is clear that the second half performance was ultimately a good thing. Just as many of us expected, Lanning, Tosh and the entire defensive staff used that as fuel from the minute the game ended and the message was received. Between those struggles, and the Texas Tech defense getting national praise all week, the stars really aligned for a heck of a performance. It is a stretch to say the best defensive game by an Oregon defense in my lifetime?
