Trav’s Ten Takeaways: Rutgers
Shaking Off the Bad Vibes: I was worried about our team heading into this game, and the first few plays certainly didn’t calm the nerves. After talking all week about a clean offensive operation, we couldn’t have started the game any worse with a blown up run play and fumbled WR screen. Thankfully, our defense really stepped up, and I thought Ify and Finney did a great job setting the tone for the game on the first drive. The vibe certainly would have felt different had Rutgers moved the ball immediately for a TD, but instead threw three straight incompletions. Our secondary established themselves in that moment and foreshadowed the difficulty that Rutgers would have going at them all night. Kaliakmanis had success against Iowa, Washington and Minnesota through the air, but he finished 8/25 for 79 yards. Crazy work by our defense and we are now the #1 pass defense in the country.
