Boise State Preview
In this article, Collin takes a deeper look at Oregon's first opponent of the 2026-27 season, Boise State. This team looks vastly different than just two years ago when Ashton Jeanty and Boise State gave the Ducks a run for their money.
Offense: Multiple Pro-Style
QB: Maddux Madsen (663) / Max Cutforth (403)
I’ll begin this by saying that I wasn’t impressed while watching the film for Maddux Madsen last year. Madsen was under pressure 30.3% of all snaps last year, and like most quarterbacks he did not perform very well under the pressure. Madsen went 24/68 (35.3%) for 324 yards (4.8ypa), 3 TDs, and 3 INTs. His turnover worthy throw percentage was marginally better, up to 4.5%, from 3.9% when kept clean. Madsen struggled mightily in the medium distance throws, 10-19 yards, where he completed only 51% of passes for 775 yards, 5 TDs, and 5 INTs. To get more specific, the intermediate center of the field was a rough spot for Madsen, completing 56.9% of passes, and 4 TDs, but 4 INTs. Interestingly though, the short center and deep centers of the field are money for Madsen, that’s where he can hurt you. Not the worst runner out there, has some mobility, carrying 47 times for 196 yards and 4 TDs. He did have 3 fumbles, but 2 of them were in Boise State’s first game of the season, only having 1 in the other 10 games he played last season.
