Trav’s Ten Takeaways: Oregon State

  1. Moore:
Boy, Dante made some NFL throws Saturday. He really puts every part of the field in play each snap, and this offense looks so different than the one DG ran a year ago. Just the lack of screens relative to a year ago is really noticeable. Beyond some big throws, I didn’t think Dante had his best game. He was a little antsy in the locket at times, and missed a few throws that would have been TDs. For example, on the 4th and 7 play early, he quickly checked down to J-Mac underneath when he had a clean pocket and guys running routes that would have moved the chains. Hopefully, plays like that are learning experiences as we just can’t throw short of the sticks with a clean pocket in that scenario. Dante also had three balls batted down in the first quarter, but on the rewatch, I tend to see that as more of an offensive line issue at this point. Excited to see Dante fully unleashed this week, and if he plays to his ceiling, he’s going to be the Heisman frontrunner a week from today.

  1. WRs Stepping Up:
I am keeping a running list of fans who owe me some Malik Benson crow as he continues to impress every week. Maybe we just trust the staff at this point? Outside of Benson and Moore, GBJ and J-Mac have been consistent and reliable targets and we go into Penn State with a clear top four playing good football.
